What can I expect from class?
Music Together is designed for children ages birth through kindergarten. At Music Together we believe that music ability is as much a basic life skill as walking and talking, and that all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with pleasure and confidence in the music of their culture. Music Together classes nurture the child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement as we sing, dance, chant, and play instruments in an informal setting that will enrich children's musical environment and guide them towards a lifetime of music-making enjoyment. See what families have to say in the short video below!

Why aren't there separate classes for different age groups?
Music Together pioneered the development of the mixed-age approach in early childhood music in the 1980s. In each class we strive to create a musically rich, developmentally appropriate environment where the whole family can enjoy music and nurture skills at the level right for each child. Mixed-age classes also provide a rich learning environment because children of different ages thrive when they interact with each other: the babies are often fascinated by the older child, and the “big” children enjoy helping and sharing with the “little” ones. This approach is based on research from music education, early childhood development, family relationships, and our 30+ years of experience in the field. Read more about the Music Together approach to early childhood music education here.

As a parent, what is my role in class?
Your active participation is the key to your children learning and growing musically. You enhance your child's experience in class by remembering to sing, sing, sing! Support the creation of a music making environment while in class by engaging in music making and creation yourself. You are your child's most important music teacher right now! Since it is difficult for a young child to block out conversation, please do not talk during class. Come early or stay late to socialize! During class, contribute to the creation of a musical environment for all of the children to absorb.
Can we eat in class?
No. Please feel comfortable to nurse/bottle-feed your child in class, but we ask that you not bring food or drink into classrooms due to allergy concerns.

May I use a camera or my cell phone during class?
No. Music Together classes are participatory educational experiences in a community of grown-ups and children. We ask our families to please refrain from taking photo or video during class time. Please turn cell phones to silent and do not check email, FB, or text during class. We welcome pictures before or after class as well as FB check-ins before "Hello Everybody!" and also do one special Photo Week every semester where we encourage families to take all the pictures their hearts delight during a second instrument play-along in class. Participants can send in their pictures into a photo raffle for a gift certificate off a future semester or instrument prize!
Is it OK for more than one adult to come to class?
Absolutely! Any singing adult- parents, grandparents, aunt/uncles, nannies are welcome to attend class at any time – no need to ask. Whole family music making in your home is extremely valuable to your child's musical development, and attending class occasionally helps the other family members to join in at home.
What if I miss a class during the semester?
Families are allowed 3 make-ups per semester with the exception of summer, when enrolled families may make up as many classes as they miss provided space is available. Make-ups are available at any location. You can schedule a make-up online with our Make-Up Scheduler. Make-ups do not carry over from previous semesters. If you know you’ll miss a class during the semester, please make a note of it in the make-up scheduler.
What is the tuition?
Tuition varies on the length of semesters. Please refer to our Tuition Page for the current semester's information.
Can I bring my infant or un-registered older sibling to class?
Infants ages birth through 8 months at the start of the session attend with an older sibling for FREE! Please register infants you will bring to class even if they are under 8 months. The tuition will be calculated based on birthdate.
Siblings 6+ years are always welcome to join the class and participate as good role models for the younger children. They are treated as an extra singing member in class.

What if I start classes after the semester begins?
Registration: Early Registration is always offered first to continuing families to save their spot in class and save a little extra money too. Music education is best as a continuous building experience from semester to semester, so we honor families who have already been making music with us before opening registration to the public. Open registration is announced through email, so if you are not already on our newsletter service (Don't worry, it's only used for this very purpose), then you can sign up here.
Late Registrations: We allow families to register late within the first few weeks of class and encourage those who have missed a class or two to schedule a make-up. We cannot allow families to register toward the end of the semester as they will have missed the community-building and musical bond that we have established with all of the parents and children in addition to the repetition of the songs that is so vitally important to children's musical development.
Prorated Tuition: A small discount code is offered after a demo class and can be found in the email you receive after attending a trial class. Those joining at a later week may find that the discount offered is not a perfect dividend. For example, with $185 tuition, we do not offer 18.50 off each class that was missed, and this is because of the fees for materials. It is always the cheapest and best option to register at the beginning of the semester to attend all 10 weeks and find make-up classes to replace classes that were missed.
Can I switch to a different class?
Changes can be made on week 1 or before for no cost. After this, there is a $10 fee for switching classes. We highly encourage families to stick to their classes as it helps build a little musical family within that class and provides a comfortable environment for all of the children when they begin to recognize their peers in class.
What if I need to withdraw from class?
If a family withdraws from class before the semester begins, we can either refund tuition minus a $25 fee or provide a full credit toward a future Music Together semester.
Books/CDs are non-returnable once opened.
Sometimes, due to either medical complications, pregnancy bedrest, or some other unforeseen reason, families find it necessary to withdraw during the semester. If you find yourself in a uniquely challenging situation please contact Director Stephanie Geare.
